Emily Alway

MD PHD STUDENT

Emily received her BS in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University. During her undergraduate training and postbaccalaureate fellowship at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Emily studied gene-environment interactions in the pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric disease. As an MD/PhD student in the Bohórquez Laboratory, Emily aims to use calcium imaging, electrophysiology, organoid culture, and behavioral phenotyping to define the gut-brain circuits which control sugar appetite and self-medication. Emily’s ambition is to become a physician-scientist who studies how gut-brain nutrient sensing affects both metabolic and mental health.
